Community Celebration Takes Center Stage at 2017 Helen Hayes Awards

The 33rd annual Helen Hayes Awards will be celebrated at the historicLincoln Theatre at 7:30 pm on May 15, with accomplished actors E. Faye Butler and Lawrence Redmond as hosts. The line-up of award presenters includes artistic leaders from across the Washington region, highlighting the depth and breadth of a theatre community recognized worldwide for the quality and diversity of its work. Following the awards, a roof-raising dance party gets underway at the world-renowned 9:30 Club. Both events honor 236 Helen Hayes Award nominees drawn from 200 eligible productions presented in 2016. Tickets for the combined Awards Ceremony and Dance Party are $275 for premium seating, $150 for balcony seating, and can be purchased online.

A.A. Milne's THE LUCKY ONE Starts Friday Off-Broadway

Beginning Friday, Mint Theater Company will present the first ever New York revival of The Lucky One by A.A. Milne. Performances will continue through June 25th at the Beckett Theater at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Opening Night is set for May 18th.

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Most have announced details of the Orchestra's 2017-18 calendar.  The season will be the ensemble's 100th year of concerts and marks the launch of its Second Century.  2017-18 is also the 16th year of the Orchestra's acclaimed partnership with Franz Welser-Most.

Roque Santeiro, by Dias Gomes, premieres on January 27 at Teatro FAAP with musical direction by Zeca Baleiro and scenic direction by Debora Dubois. The play written in 1963 should have been staged in 1965, but was censored by the military government. In 1975, Dias Gomes (1922-1999) adapted the work for television and this version was also prohibited. Only ten years later, in 1985, with the country experiencing a process of democratization, the soap opera was finally broadcasted.

On November 12 at 3PM she will bring back her beloved one woman tribute Sophie Tucker In Person at the Ziegfeld Society at Lang Hall at Hunter College, 69th and Lexington. Tickets are $23 and available by visiting theziegfeldsociety.com. Ms. Allen will also return to the stage with her new show she recently debuted called, I'm A New Yorker written and directed by Ian Finkel. I'm A New Yorker will be performed at Don't Tell Mama's (343 West 46th Street) on Tuesday, November 29 and Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30pm. A troupe of eight autonomous drones designed by Verity Studios soared onto Broadway as part of a live performance in Cirque du Soleil - PARAMOUR. This is the first time Cirque du Soleil - known for its stunning acrobatics and world-class production design - has specifically created a show for Broadway, and it's the first time autonomous robots have taken center stage there.
