James Conlon Leads Chicago Symphony Orchestra in COSÌ FAN TUTTE & THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO

Ravinia celebrates opera with Mozart's Così fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra led by James Conlon and joined by all-star casts as well as members of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Both operas will be presented in the Martin Theatre and will receive two performances, Così on Aug. 5 and 7 and Figaro on Aug. 6 and 8. Cosi fan tutte features 'one of America's finest artists and singers' (New York Times), mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, portraying Despina; Grammy Award winning soprano Ana Maria Martinez, who last appeared at Ravinia with Plácido Domingo at the festival's 2007 Gala, as Fiordiligi; Romanian mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose, who recently appeared as Veronica Quaife in The Fly at L.A. Opera, making her Ravinia debut as Dorabella; Russian baritone Rodion Pogosov, who made his Metropolitan Opera debut playing Papageno in the 2004 production of Die Zauberflöte, portraying Guglielmo in his festival debut; and Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu, who made his US debut singing Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi at LA Opera, conducted by Conlon and directed by Woody Allen, appearing as Ferrando in his festival debut.

Jonah Bokaer's fascination with the fusion of architecture, technology and choreography is front and center this year, in the United States and Internationally. Consider his 2010 commissioned world premieres: a choreography and architecture commission from Dance Works Rotterdam, Holland; the opening of Pavilion Dance's new building in Bournemouth, England; and Georgia Institute of Technology, where he is also the school's first Artist in Residence. Bokaer, who along with John Jasperse, created CPR - Center for Performance Research, was also instrumental in the architectural design of the performing space and facilities. Greenbelt, which houses CPR, recently became the first New York State L.E.E.D!-NC Gold certified mixed-use structure.*

In a presentation titled, 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog,' Michael Riedel talks about his publications (1997-2009) on the occasion of his new release Meckert (Koenig Books). Using numerous pictures and sound recordings, the latter in the form of transcribed texts, Meckert continues the artist's series of publications (Scheißen und Brunzen, 2000; Oskar, 2003; Johnson - Robert, 2004; Tirala, 2006; Gedruckte und nicht gedruckte Poster, 2008; amongst others), which are published as independent works parallel to his exhibitions. Catherine, Tuesday, Fiontan, and Mieke are four new texts that were recorded during his exhibitions in Cork, New York, London, and Basel, respectively. The dialogues come from phone calls, in which the current situation at each exhibition is described.
