The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and Music Director James R. Cassidy close the Symphony's 20th anniversary Summer Series in Devou Park, Saturday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. with a free program dubbed "The Battle of Broadway: Sondheim vs. Webber." Composers Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber (who coincidently have the same birthday - March 22) ruled the boards on Broadway and the West End for most of the 1970s-80s compiling hit song after hit song in a string of award winning musicals. Home-grown bonafide Broadway stars Pamela Myers and Jessica Hendy will be featured, singing the hit tunes of these living legends.

A Letter to Harvey Milk, has a book by Jerry James, Cheryl Stern and Laura I. Kramer, lyrics by Ellen M. Schwartz with additional lyrics by Cheryl Stern, and music by Laura I. Kramer, it has been musical directed, arranged and orchestrated by Ned Paul Ginsburg, and the reading will be directed by Evan Pappas (Performer: Parade, My Favorite Year).

Sondheim is the winner of an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards, including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award. Described by Frank Rich of the New York Times as 'the greatest, and perhaps best-known artist working in musical theatre', his most famous scores include (as composer/lyricist) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins. He also wrote the lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy.
Lloyd Webber has composed 13 musicals, a song cycle, a set of variations, two film scores, and a Latin Requiem Mass. He has also gained a number of honours, including a knighthood in 1992, followed by a peerage from the British Government for services to Music, seven Tony Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, fourteen Ivor Novello Awards, seven Olivier Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006. Producer Kevin McCollum has just announced that SOMETHING ROTTEN!, a completely original new musical comedy directed and choreographed by Tony-winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy -winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O'Farrell, will begin previews March 23 and officially open April 22, 2015 at Broadway's St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street).

Signature Theatre presents Elmer Gantry, a musical version of Sinclair Lewis' best-selling novel, directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Follies, Million Dollar Quartet). Schaeffer collaborated on the last production of Elmer Gantry at Marriott's Lincolnshire Theatre in Chicago with authors John Bishop (book), Mel Marvin (music) and Bob Satuloff (lyrics) in 1998; the show has not been produced since then. This will be the 5th production in the show's history. Running in the MAX Theatre today, October 7 - November 9, Signature's production will include several brand new songs by Mel Marvin and Bob Satuloff and a reimagined script that John Bishop worked on until his death in 2006.
