The Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 4/11-19
by BWW News Desk - Mar 24, 2014

Pacific Northwest Ballet continues its 2013-2014 season with George Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream. A complete delight for all ages, this full-length ballet is based on William Shakespeare's comedy about the romantic adventures, quarrels and reunions of two pairs of mortal lovers and the king and queen of the fairies. Balanchine's Midsummer, which New York City Ballet premiered in 1962, was the first original evening-length ballet he choreographed in America. Staged by PNB Founding Artistic Director Francia Russell, PNB's production is an enchanted landscape where misunderstandings and mayhem weave tangled paths through the opulent layers of Martin Pakledinaz's designs and Balanchine's marvelously crafted partnerings. All ends well in Act II's wedding festivities with the recognition of ideal love, tenderly portrayed in an exquisite pas de deux. A Midsummer Night's Dream plays for eight performances only, April 11-19 at McCaw Hall at Seattle Center Tickets start at $28 and may be purchased by calling the PNB Box Office at 206. 441.2424, online at PNB.org, or in person at the PNB Box Office at 301 Mercer Street.

Jacaranda to Present David Byrne's THE KNEE PLAYS, 3/16-5/4
by Tyler Peterson - Mar 20, 2014

Jacaranda will perform 'The Knee Plays' by David Byrne, the famed driving force of the 'art rock' band the Talking Heads. This program of 1980s film, theater and ceremonial music is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's citywide 'Minimalist Jukebox' (March 16-May 4). Robert Wilson's ambitious, unfinished opera 'the CIVIL warS' was intended for the 1984 Olympics Arts Festival in Los Angeles. 'The Knee Plays' was conceived as a set of 14 short interludes between sections of the opera to span an entire day. Jacaranda's offering of the entire set, which Byrne toured widely and recorded, will complement the L.A. Phil's two performances of the opera's 'Rome Section' by Philip Glass. Together, they constitute the only two completed parts of 'the CIVIL warS' - united in Los Angeles for the first time ever. 'The Knee Plays' tour ended in 1988.

George E. Lowe Releases Stalking the Antichrists (1965"2012) Volume 2
by Christina Mancuso - Dec 19, 2013

The first volume of this book was essentially an 'enhanced' memoir-and a revisionist history-mostly based on author George E. Lowe's personal observations, knowledge and 'specialized information' from his extensive academic studies in History, Naval Air Intelligence & Foreign Service duty in Japan, Pentagon & Paris Embassy. Stalking the Antichrists: and Their False Nuclear Prophets, Nuclear Gladiators, and 'Spirit Warriors (1965-2012) Volume 2 is the reinforcement of his revelations as a Revisionist Historian Lowe continues to dissect and reveal more of the truth about the 'Antichrists' [The American Presidents] and the hostile, provocative stratagem created by their 'defense intellectuals' and their political-military advisors on nuclear strategy -1945-2012 .

BWW Reviews: THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE - A Fun Frolic on the Seas
by Tim Carney - Oct 31, 2013

The Production Company rounded off its 2013 season last night with Gilbert and Sullivan's classic operetta The Pirates of Penzance. There was, however, little reference to the classic that was first performed in 1879. There have been many adaptations of the original, with this production centering on the 1981 Broadway production. This show is undoubtedly fun. In fact, that is the most apt word to describe this production. It's light and fluffy in all the right places, however, its biggest strength is also its ultimate undoing. For while director Dean Bryant has tapped into the light pantomime frolics that make Pirates so enjoyable, there is little variation to the over flamboyance presented on opening night. This show fails to find the truth in moments that call for it. Any honest point is made light of or brushed over with seemingly little regard. The show fights against itself, leaving us partially satisfied but never fully satisfied.
