On Thursday, January 27th 2011, art collector Normandie Keith will open her home to unveil her latest acquisition, a massive room installation by Los Angeles based artist Cole Sternberg. The Content is Bleeding Through is an installation with many layers meant to challenge the progression of media and society, questioning the celebrity manufacturing system of the media and the concentration of the news on falsities and trivialities. After collecting multiple paintings by Sternberg, Keith commissioned the artist to take over an external space on her property to produce his piece. 'Cole is one of the most important artists of his generation and I'm so happy to be able to live with his amazing installation. It provides a sociological snapshot of where we are at, both disturbing and beautiful,' states Keith.

It's 1979, and Jon and Leslie are two young, out-of-work, bachelors sharing an apartment together in New York City. To save money, Jon has been filing tax returns listing the pair as married...unbeknownst to his buddy Leslie. The day of reckoning comes when the Internal Revenue Service informs the 'couple' they are going to be investigated by a Mr. Floyd Spinner. With the help of his fiancée - Kate, Jon dresses Leslie up to masquerade as a housewife. Complicating matters further - Jon's mother unexpectedly drops in to meet her son's fiancée, and Leslie's girlfriend shows up demanding to know why he won't see her anymore. Add one unscrupulously nosy landlord to the bunch, and things quickly spiral into side-splitting confusion and chaos in this hilarious farce.

I have to congratulate local playwright Will Cooper for this truly insightful original work. Although the show is a mere 90 minutes, he doesn't rush it. He takes his time in presenting a beautiful piece about one's struggle for identity. Not only does he give you a girl struggling in relation to her family and in relation to her culture, he also layers in attention to China's one-child policy (established in 1979 to limit population growth). Sure, our relations with China are far different than they were thirty years ago. Nonetheless, Cooper reminds us that the repercussions of this horrific human rights violation are something that we're only starting to really deal with today.
