Wayne Tunks Returns to Midsumma at La Mama with THE GIRLIE SHOW Tonight

It's been two years since Wayne Tunks' one man show, 'Everything I Know I Learnt From Madonna' filled the seats at La Mama for Midsumma. Well this year, Wayne's back with another ode to Madonna, THE GIRLIE SHOW, the story of five young people meeting in line for Madonna's Girlie Show tour in 1993.

'Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape' added to collection Campbell County (KY) Public Library to Include a Copy A copy of 'Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape,' by Miranda N. Prather with illustrations by Hayley Mullins, which was published by Shoo-fly Publications on 11/18/15 will be added to the Campbell County Kentucky Public Library. Miranda N. Prather lived in Northern Kentucky from 1983 to 1993, when her family moved from New Orleans, LA, to Independence, KY. In Kentucky, Prather attended Kenton Elementary, Twenhofel Middle School and graduated from Simon Kenton High School. During her time in Kentucky, the author took horseback riding lessons and owned another off-track Thoroughbred named Beble. Hayley Mullins resides in Erlanger, Kentucky, where she is a high school senior at Heritage Academy. She is a self-taught artist, who is gaining a following due to her natural talent for catching a subject in whimsical ways. Upon graduation, the illustrator plans to attend Lipscomb University and study Visual Development and Animation. 'Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape' tells the life story of a blue-collar racehorse who overcame a devastating illness to survive and inspire thousands around the globe who were facing their own struggles. The book features playful writing and delightful pictures form Erlanger, KY, artist Hayley Mullins that bring the tale of Blue Blue Sea to life. John Patrick Shanley has won many accolades throughout his career as a poet and playwright. The author of more than 23 plays, including 80 productions in North America, Shanley won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for his play “Doubt” and an Oscar for his screenplay, “Moonstruck.” But his identity as an Irish-American did not truly happen until 1993 when he traveled back to his family's farm in Ireland at the request of his ailing father who asked to be taken home. The trip back spoke to his poetic heart, and led to his romantic play OUTSIDE MULLINGAR.

Happy Birthday, Charles Strouse! Strouse's first Broadway musical was the 1960 hit Bye Bye Birdie, with lyrics by Lee Adams, who would become his long time collaborator. Following this was Golden Boy (1964, also with Adams), starring Sammy Davis, Jr. and It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman (1966, based on the popular comic strip) which introduced the song 'You've Got Possibilities' sung by Linda Lavin. In 1970, Applause (starring Lauren Bacall, with book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and lyrics by Adams) won Strouse his second Tony Award. In 1977, Strouse adapted another comic strip for the stage, creating the hit Annie, which garnered him his third Tony Award and two Grammy Awards. Other Strouse musicals include Charlie and Algernon (1979), Dance a Little Closer (1983, with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner), Rags (1986), Nick & Nora (1993), and An American Tragedy (1995, with lyrics by David Shaber).

Wolfe, and Savion Glover will team up to collaborate on SHUFFLE ALONG, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a musical about the events that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle musical Shuffle Along. Starring Audra McDonald as the 1920's star Lottie Gee, directed by George C. Wolfe -- with a book written by Wolfe -- and choreographed by Savion Glover, the musical marks the first time that the writer/director and choreographer will have worked together since their 1996 hit Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. Previews will begin Monday, March 14, 2016. Opening night is Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).
