American Opera Projects (AOP) and Opera New Jersey reunite sopranos Lauren Flanigan and Catherine Malfitano in The Family Room, a new one-act opera written especially for them by composer Thomas Pasatieri (The Seagull ) with an original libretto by Daphne Malfitano. The dark drama tells the story of two nameless women living in a windowless studio who speak of dinner parties and relatives, of husbands and love and a child named Georgie, but their only company is ominous sounds from above.

Vineyard Theatre and Naked Angels will co-produce the world-premiere of Zayd Dohrn's play OUTSIDE PEOPLE, directed by Evan Cabnet at The Vineyard (108 East 15th Street), which will begin performances in December, 2011 and open in January 2012, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre and Andy Donald, Artistic Director of Naked Angels. It is the first co-production for the two award-winning off-Broadway companies.
Riverside Park Fund is pleased to announce that Broadway star and Tony winner Laura Benanti will perform at this year's benefit gala, celebrating 25 years of conservancy. The gala, entitled Broadway at the Boat Basin, will be held Monday, June 20 at the Boat Basin Café in the historic Rotunda in Riverside Park. Ms. Benanti was just nominated for a Tony for her performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Ms. Benanti tells Riverside Park Fund, 'I have run, walked, played, lounged and enjoyed every minute of my time in Riverside Park. It is a rare blessing
to have such a beautiful oasis for people from all walks of life. It is my absolute honor to contribute through song to the preservation of this New York treasure.' Ms. Benanti joins an impressive roster of performers who have all contributed their voices to Riverside Park's well-loved gala under the stars, including Kelli O'Hara, who performed to a sold-out crowd last year, and Brian Stokes Mitchell the year prior. Kushner and Eustis discussed these topics and more, with an introduction by special guest host Cynthia Nixon.
