The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) continues our Improvisionaries season presenting trailblazing composer and electric violist, Martha Mooke.  COP's fifth series program at the Kimmel Center, Mozart, Mooke, and Faure, will feature Mozart's brilliant Symphony No. 38 "Prague." This iconic work received its first performance in Prague during one of Mozart's most successful tours to the city. The "Prague" symphony will share the program with a new commission by Martha Mooke. Mooke's unique style crosses the classical, jazz, and rock genres with a compelling and singular musical voice. In addition to concert appearances worldwide, Mooke's work has been featured in recordings that often defy categorization, including David Bowie's Heathen CD.

From the band's formation by the late Damon Edge in 1975, joined by longtime vocalist/guitarist Helios Creed in '77, Chrome has developed a unique methodology within the band, bringing art into sound, splicing in a Sci-Fi collage of sound bites, combining searing rock with noise, weirdness, pile driver rhythms (including scrap metal percussion), heavy rhythm-guitar riffs, effects-laden vocals, psychedelic guitar leads, and mindbending audio manipulations. Known for their experimental, de/re-construction of rock and roll, the seminal post-punk psychedelic outfit will embark on a major US tour this Spring to support their 21st studio album 'Techromancy', which was released last year on Cleopatra Records.  With driving rhythms and metallic riffs of their more rocking early '80s 'Red Exposure' period, the new album, which Creed describes as 'a natural progression of the original Chrome idea', is the follow up to their 2014 double studio album 'Feel It Like a Scientist'.   

Somewhere in between the high heel kicking, lap dancing, water spitting, wig switching and rocking music, I fell in love with Kata Klysmic's production of Hedwig and The Angry Inch. This feeling must have come towards the beginning of the show, as I do not remember one second where the momentum of the production loosened its grip on the throats of the audience as it catapulted into its glorious finale. It is this energy, intimate staging, and top notch performances that make this production of Hedwig and The Angry Inch the most rockin' production Des Moines has seen in years.

Legendary rockers STYX and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS are teaming up with TESLA for a summer U.S. tour that kicks off May 30 in Irvine, CA at the FivePoint Amphitheatre.

The Gaslight Anthem has announced a very special series of shows celebrating the 10th anniversary of their milestone second studio album, THE '59 SOUND. The New Jersey-based rock band will travel North America and Europe performing the album in its entirety, with dates beginning May 27th at Washington, DC's legendary 9:30 Club and then traveling into mid-August. As previously announced, The Gaslight Anthem will also perform THE '59 SOUND in its entirety at this year's Governors Ball Music Festival. 

Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) presents the East Village Series, its first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution's new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. This presentation of works from some of today's most radical performers and multidisciplinary artists resituates the institution in newly revamped spaces, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, in 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street), where Performance Space 122 was founded, and where it operated until it moved out in 2011 for the building renovation. The series contemplates the past, present, and future of the organization and its neighborhood.

NJ quartet Dinosaur Eyelids release 'Left Turn on Red' this Friday, 11/24, their first new record since 2014's breakthrough album 'Bypass to Nowhere'. With 'Left Turn on Red', the band cover the full emotional spectrum ranging from feverish indie rock to beautiful folky ballads. Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Green Day today released a new song and accompanying music video for 'Back In The USA,' which is featured on Greatest Hits: God's Favorite Band. The album is available everywhere today via Reprise Records.

In their last state-side show before kicking off a major European tour, the hip-hop phenomenon Ho99o9 (pronounced Horror and also known as HO99O9 DEATH KULT) plays White Eagle Hall in Jersey City on November 22.

The McCallum Theatre presents Dia de los Muertos Live, featuring La Santa Cecilia, Mexrrissey, and Mariachi Flor de Toloache, on Saturday, October 28, at 8:00pm. For the first time ever, these three exciting Mexican artists are coming together to celebrate Dia de los Muertos by showcasing the diverse sounds of modern Mexico. Los Angeles-based La Santa Cecilia's unique sound blends Latin rhythms with rock and world music, earning them a Grammy for Best Latin Rock Album. Mexrrissey caringly reimagines songs by Morrissey and The Smiths in Spanish with a definitive Mexican instrumentation and voice. Grammy-nominated Mariachi Flor de Toloache is the first all-female mariachi group, whose distinct interpretation of this musical tradition most recently got them on tour with Dan Auerbach's band The Arcs.

The punk rock scene of the 1970s and '80s in Southern California is widely acknowledged as one of the most vibrant and creative periods in rock and roll. Over the years, many books have come out exploring this explosive time in music and culture, but none have exclusively focused on the vitality and influence of the women who played such a crucial role in this incredibly dynamic movement.

As part of the 2017 edition of its acclaimed Crossing the Line Festival, the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, presents the US Premiere of Nora Chipaumire's #PUNK, Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15, in FIAF's Tinker Auditorium.
