Ridgefield Playhouse to Welcome Ghost Whisperer James Van Praagh, 4/9
by Tyler Peterson - Feb 11, 2014

Known as the original 'Ghost Whisperer' (the TV show that was based on his abilities and for which he was a consultant), the awe-inspiring James Van Praagh bridges the gap between two planes of existence, that of the living and that of the dead, by providing evidential proof of life after death via detailed messages. Since 2011, each of Van Praagh's annual visits to the Playhouse has sold out well in advance with audience members eager to witness his rare abilities. His very natural easy-going style would lead you to believe that Van Praagh is chatting with a friend on the telephone, not communicating messages from the grave. On Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. at The Ridgefield Playhouse, he will demonstrate his unique talent and do what he does best -- select people from the audience to participate in the calling of the spirits in a one-night-only event. He will be signing copies of his books such as Unfinished Business, Ghosts Among Us and Growing Up in Heaven in the lobby after the show. Copies of the books can be purchased in the Playhouse lobby the evening of the event or at Books on the Common (404 Main Street, Ridgefield) prior to the show. This event is underwritten by Green Rocks Inn and is part of the Hamlet Hub A Whole New You Series with media sponsor i95.1fm The Home of Rock 'n' Roll. For dinner-and-a-show, Bernard's (22 West Lane, Ridgefield) is offering a special $45 prix-fixe menu, or a free glass of wine with dinner, before these events, when tickets are presented; reservations suggested beginning at 5 p.m.

Aurora Theatre Company to Present WITTENBERG, 4/4-5/4
by Tyler Peterson - Feb 3, 2014

Aurora Theatre Company presents the Bay Area Premiere of WITTENBERG, David Davalos' hilarious mash-up about reason versus faith. It is October 1517 and the beginning of another fall semester at the University of Wittenberg finds certain members of the faculty and student body at personal and professional crossroads. Hamlet (senior, class of 1518), suffering from a sudden crisis of faith, has just returned from summer break with a revelation that threatens the very order of the universe. As the Prince who should be King laughably ping-pongs between the contrary advice of Martin Luther (Professor, theology) and Doctor John Faustus (Professor, philosophy), two of history's most stubborn intellectuals go head-to-head in comic combat for the conflicted Dane's allegiance. Will Faustus, the philosopher with a lust for life, win the confused young man's mind, or can Luther, the cleric who ignited the Protestant Reformation, win his soul?

BWW Blog: Helping Memphis Students Embrace Shakespeare
by Guest Blogger: Dan McCleary - Dec 26, 2013

I founded Tennessee Shakespeare Company in my hometown of Memphis in 2008 following many years of working as a stage actor, director, artist-manager, primarily in New England. I was personally and professionally compelled to found TSC, and I spent half a year researching and creating a strategic seven-year plan. This gave birth to the Mid-South's only professional, classical theatre. But we quickly outpaced our seven years. We also encountered all manner of unforeseen obstacles, surprises, and even set-backs, which, the further I get from them, the more intriguing they become (as opposed to just harrowing).
