Art Commission Approves New Public Artwork By Brian McCutcheon At Smith Playground

The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy's Percent for Art Program is pleased to announce the approval of a new public art commission by artist Brian McCutcheon at Smith Playground located in South Philadelphia at 2100 South 24th Street.

Palm Springs International Film Festival Announces Festival Line-Up

 The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) announced that the festival's opening night will be the screening of All is True directed by Kenneth Branagh on Friday, January 4.  The festival will close with Ladies in Black, directed by Bruce Beresford on Sunday, January 13. The Festival will screen 223 films from 78 countries, including 48 premieres (4 World, 13 North American and 31 U.S.) from January 3-14, 2019.  The line-up includes a focus on cinema from France, India and Mexico, Premieres, Talking Pictures, Book to Screen, Special Presentations, FLOS: Foreign Language Oscar Submissions, Gay!La, Local Spotlight, Modern Masters, True Stories, World Cinema Now, a 30-film retrospective of selections from past festivals (free screenings sponsored by Desert Care Network and National Endowment for the Arts), and more.

Born on October 11, 1918 in New York City, Robbins was one of the major forces in 20th century performing arts. He received world renown for his choreography for New York City Ballet, where he spent much of his creative life, as well as for his work with American Ballet Theatre, Ballets: U.S.A., and other dance companies around the world. He received equal acclaim for his work as a director and choreographer of Broadway musicals, plays, movies, and television, winning five Tony Awards and two Academy Awards, as well as numerous other honors including the Handel Medallion of the City of New York (1976), the Kennedy Center Honors (1981), and the National Medal of the Arts (1988).

Noticias Telemundo was awarded a News and Documentary Emmy® Award in the category of Outstanding Investigative Journalism in Spanish for 'Los Nadien,' a two-part report produced by Noticias Telemundo Investiga. “Los Nadien” offers an inside look at the dangerous expedition of migrants attempting to reach U.S. soil and sheds light onto the experience of children born during the journey. Noticias Telemundo Investiga, Telemundo's first-ever investigative unit,  was launched in October of 2017.

Fire & Grace's programs explore the connective musical elements of classical, folk, and contemporary traditions from around the world, showcased through the duo's own arrangements. Nederlands Dans Theater 2 will kick off its 2019 U.S. tour with a program of four works at New York City Center, running January 16 - 19, 2019. The program has been revised and will now feature: A New York premiere and a repertoire favorite by house choreographers Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot, and American premieres by associate choreographer Marco Goecke and Edward Clug.

Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill begins preview performances on May 26, opens on June 1, and runs through July 1 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Bill Fennelly returns to The Armory to direct after previously directing Gypsy, Black Pearl Sings and, most recently, Little Shop of Horrors. Deidrie Henry, who most recently played Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire at The Armory, will be joined on stage by Abdul Hamid Royal, the production's music director who also plays the role of Jimmy Powers, along with local musicians Charles Neal (drums) and Andre St. James (bass).
