Following a year of worldwide political and social activism spearheaded by young people in this country and around the world, the new play with gospel music Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom begins its 2019 tour with a special engagement at The Riverside Church of New York on January 19 & 20 in celebration of Martin Luther King's Birthday. This poignant and inspirational new play with music is a reminder that young people have used the power of their voices throughout history to bring about change. The true story of Lynda Blackmon Lowery, the youngest person to march all the way from Selma to Montgomery in the 1965 Selma Voting Rights March, Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom was developed for the stage by Ally Sheedy and is directed by Fracaswell Hyman. The stage adaptation is based on the award-winning memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery, as told to Elspeth Leacock and Susan Buckley and illustrated by PJ Loughran.

In this hilarious one-woman show, Lily performs more than a dozen of her timeless characters, from Ernestine to Mrs. Beasley to Edith Ann. Entering its 87th consecutive summer, Jacob's Pillow is home to the longest-running dance festival in the United States, a National Historic Landmark, a National Medal of Arts recipient, and has steadily expanded its reach in the field and its local community as a year-round center for dance research and development. Festival 2019 opens June 19, attracting audiences both on and off its site in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, through August 25.

The 4th Annual Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) has announced a Global and Asian Entertainment Forum to be held as part of the Film Festival on October 26, at the historic Culver Hotel. The theme of the 2018 AWFF celebrates women in film, a nod to the growing role of women in the Asian entertainment business and the #metoo movement. As previously announced, 14 Oscar Foreign Language Film submissions and seven Golden Globe Foreign Language Film contenders will be screened as part of the festival's schedule at the Arclight Cinemas in Downtown Culver City (9500 Culver Blvd) which runs from October 24 to November 1, 2018. UCI Drama Celebrates Women In Law With The Award-Winning Musical LEGALLY BLONDE

UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts Department of Drama opens its 2018-19 season, entitled "Against All Odds," with the irresistibly fun musical Legally Blonde at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe's 2007 Broadway hit, with a book by Heather Hach based on the Amanda Brown novel and movie of the same name, was nominated for multiple Tony Awards and won an award for Best Touring Musical in 2009. This story of Elle Woods' journey, which begins as a quest for love and ends as a story of personal transformation, cleverly embeds its message of empowerment in a pink and rollicking world of music, humor, and double entendre.

SAG-AFTRA announced that members Marsha Hunt, Norman Lloyd, June Lockhart and Barbara Perry will be recipients of the SAG-AFTRA Founders Award for their historic contributions to the union. Hunter Theater Project Announces Richard Nelson's UNCLE VANYA

 Hunter College President Jennifer J. Raab announced today the inaugural production of the Hunter Theater Project, the New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA at the Frederick Loewe Theater at Hunter College (E. 68th Street and Lexington Avenue), directed by Richard Nelson. Translated byRichard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky. This production is the first time renowned Russian literature translators Pevear and Volokhonsky will have a work premiere in New York City, following the show's world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego, California. Previews for UNCLE VANYA begin Friday, September 7. The production runs through Sunday, October 14, with an official press opening on Sunday, September 16. Tickets are on sale now.

Barbra Streisand's Classic Specials and Special Edition of A STAR IS BORN Launch on Netflix This Friday, June 15

As previously announced by Barbra Streisand and Netflix at the 2018 Netflix FYSee closing night celebration which featured Streisand in conversation with Jamie Foxx in support of Barbra: The Music… The Mem'ries… The Magic! Netflix audiences worldwide will soon enjoy a fresh selection of content from the Streisand library including award-winning My Name Is Barbra (1965), Color Me Barbra (1966), Barbra Streisand: A Happening in Central Park (1968), Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments (1973), Barbra Streisand: The Concert (1994), and Barbra Streisand: Timeless (2001). Netflix is also thrilled to present a special edition of Barbra Streisand's classic movie A Star Is Born (1976). Supervising the edit, Ms. Streisand was happy to include never-before-seen footage – the scene where she first plays “Evergreen” on the guitar for Mr. Kristofferson. To Ms. Streisand's surprise almost a year later, the song went on to win the Academy Award, the Grammy, and the Golden Globe. The other never-before-seen footage includes a rock n' roll version of the film's finale “Watch Closely Now.”  All of the titles will launch on Netflix in the US this Friday, June 15.
