I have met Master Sondheim exactly three times in my life.  Twice was just in passing at various press events.  But the third time, I found myself sidled up next to him at the Glass House Tavern on 47th Street and actually got a chance to chat with the man.

Berkshire Theatre Group announces the final production of its upcoming 2017 Summer Season will be Mark Medoff's Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Award-winning play, Children of a Lesser God, which will begin performances on Thursday, June 22 at The Fitzpatrick Main Stage. Five years ago in 2011, a $50 million performing arts center opened on the Folsom Lake College campus. Perched on the side of a prominent hill in Folsom, the venue held three distinct stages under one roof. It promised both a home for regional arts organizations and a venue for international touring artists. It was to be an arts laboratory for students and campus faculty alike; for the broader community, the facility was to be a jewel in its crown. The opening performance on February 11 was, fittingly, the national tour of "A Chorus Line," the beloved Broadway play celebrating those hearty souls who pursue a life on stage.

The 1975 smash hit Broadway musical A CHORUS LINE truly is a singular sensation. After winning nine Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize (one of only eight musicals to do so), it ran for 15 years, making it the longest running musical on Broadway at the time (it still ranks as number six). I've been waiting almost seven years for a local production of A CHORUS LINE, since seeing the Broadway revival tour in 2009. The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts has finally fulfilled my wish, and it's well worth the wait. Featuring a fabulously talented cast of over two dozen legit triple threats, about half of whom are local, co-directed and co-choreographed by A CHORUS LINE expert Kerry Casserly and Artistic Director James Rocco, this show hews very close to the original. There's no re-imagining here, this is a beautifully faithful production of the singular sensation that is A CHORUS LINE. If you call yourself a musical theater fan, it's a must-see.

Cabaret for a Cause will hold two shows on November 29th at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Cabaret for a Cause was created in 2010 to bring together young professionals from Broadway, film and television to help others.

Any concerns about the state of 21st Century Broadway musicals can be swiftly addressed by having The Public Theater transfer a show to Times Square once every season.
