Whidbey Island Center for the Arts Debuts Chamber Music on the Rock Series

A new partnership between Trio RASA and Whidbey Island Center for the Arts will make its debut on WICA’s Main Stage over two weekends this summer, June 24-25 and July 1-2, 2023.

Performing will be Trio Rasa and the RASA 4/5.  Team RASA is comprised of Linda Vogt and Gloria Ferry-Brennan, violins; Roxanna Patterson, viola; Aniela Marie Perry, cello; and Sheila Weidendorf, piano.

Sheila Weidendorf, pianist for the chamber music group, describes RASA as Sanskrit for “Qualities of art, inspiration.” Weidendorf explained that the partnership with WICA means that RASA will perform twice a year at WICA, a place they refer to as the musical group’s classical home. “Music is fun, we love what we do,” said Weidendorf. “And music is universal.” Here are the programs for the chamber music group’s debut performances at WICA:

Program I: Mixed Metaphor! (Saturday, June 24, 7:30 PM ~ Sunday, June 25, 2PM)

  • Piano trios by Germaine Tailleferre & Chen Yi
  • Phantasy for Piano Quartet by Frank Bridge
  • Selection from Igor Stravinsky’s Duo Concertant with the Meander Dance Collective

Program II: All Dvorak, All the Time (Saturday, July 1, 7:30 PM - Sunday, July 2, 2PM)

  • Dumky Trio by Antonin Dvorak
  • Piano Quintet in A, Opus 81 by Dvorak

Review: SHERWOOD: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD at Village Theatre

Author Ken Ludwig has certainly had a prolific career filled with some wonderful gems, “Crazy for You”, “Lend Me a Tenor”, and “Moon Over Buffalo” to name just a few. So, Village Theatre’s new production of his 2017 work, “Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood” sounds like a rollicking good time. Unfortunately, this new retelling of a classic adventure meanders about awkwardly not knowing what it wants to be. And that’s just one of the two big problems of a production that just laid there hoping the audience would find something funny in it.
