Village Theatre continues its season with Ernest Thompson's heart-warming play, On Golden Pond, featuring Tony-Award nominees, Clayton Corzatte (The School of Scandal) and Jeanne Paulsen (The Kentucky Cycle).

First seen on Broadway in 1979, On Golden Pond offers a poignant look at the strength, compassion, and devotion of the indomitable human spirit. A retired New England professor and lovable curmudgeon, Norman Thayer, Jr., and his spirited wife Ethel, decide to spend one final summer at their family's lakeside cottage, after vacationing there for the past 44 years. However, this summer, everything will change as new bonds are formed and relationships once lost are rekindles. Moving through unforgettable experiences, the characters learn that love, forgiveness, and understanding can heal to renew. On Golden Pond opened February 29th, 1979, with Tom Alderedge and Frances Sternhagen as husband and wife. The play was quickly translated to film, with Oscar winners Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn as Norman and Ethel, and Jane Fonda as their daughter. The film won Fonda his first Oscar, and Hepburn her fourth. A recent Broadway revival, starring James Earl Jones and Leslie Uggams, closed quickly when Jones suffered an ongoing bout of pneumonia.

Jeff Steitzer will direct a company that also includes Susan Corzatte as Ethel, Eric Ray Anderson as Charlie Martin, Jim Gall as Bill Ray, and Michael Moore as Billy Ray. The creative team for On Golden Pond includes Norm Spencer (set design), Marcia Dixcy Jory (costume design), Greg Sullivan (lighting design), and Jim Graham (sound design).

Clayton Corzatte (Norman) received a Tony nomination in 1967 for Best Featured Actor in a Play for The School for Scandal. He also appeared on Broadway in The Wild Duck, You Can't Take it With You, and The Cherry Orchard. Paulsen, who will play Corzatte's daughter, received a 1994 Tony Nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Kentucky Cycle. She recently returned to Broadway in a revival of Arthur Miller's The Crucible starring Laura Linney and Liam Neeson.

"In honoring our long time tradition to bring to the stage quality productions, we are proud to have hired the award-winning talents of Jeanne Paulsen and Clayton Corzatte," said Robb Hunt, executive producers of Village Theatre. "Having nationally-recognized and Tony Award-nominated actors working at Village Theatre is a testament of our dedication to quality and leadership in the world of theatre."
