The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA's 31st Young Artist Concerto Competition Open Nationwide

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA will open its 2025 Annual Young Artist Concerto Competition with a National Call for Entries, announced by VSO's CEO Dr. Igor Shakhman. Based in Vancouver, WA, the VSO has become a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest's arts community and works to highlight and celebrate great student musicianship through this competition. For the fifth year in a row, applications are open to entrants nationwide across the piano, strings, and woodwinds/brass categories until August 1, 2025 at 4 p.m. (PST). Nine finalists will be selected from the initial application pool to compete at the highly anticipated VSO Young Artist Concerto Competition Finals for generous cash prizes and the opportunity to perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on January 17 and 18, 2026 under the baton of VSO Music Director and Conductor Salvador Brotons. Past esteemed judges for the competition include GRAMMY winner Zuill Bailey, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra solo English horn Pedro Diaz, former Artistic Director for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center David Shifrin, Concert Artists' Guild President Tanya Bannister, Director of Lucy Moses School Dr. Igal Kesselman, and others.

In response to the growing demand of the VSO Young Artist Concerto Competition, the VSO expanded the pool of eligible candidates to all 50 states in 2022. The VSO also increased the amount of prize money for all winners in each category, and the same amounts will continue to be offered for the 2025 competition: Gold Medalists, $5,000 each; Silver Medalists, $2,000 each; Bronze Medalists, $1,000 each.
