Seattle Theatre Group Presents IAMDONALD, 4/21

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents the IAMDONALD Tour: Donald Glover & Childish Gambino, on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 9:00pm at Neumos.

The IAMDONALD Tour is interactive experience that uses live music, comedy, and video to covey the personal experience of being me, Donald Glover. People should leave the show feeling like they're best friends with Donald Glover.

THE SLIDE SHOW Loud music starts with the slide "WELCOME TO THE IAMDONALD TOUR". Jokes about what the night will entail are played out through slides. Personal iPhone pics of me f-ing around with my friends are shown (my best friend's balls, my cousin throwing up in the car after a night of drinking, me full on kissing Joel McHale at Carnegie Hall).

STAND UP I comes on stage and, again, get people on board for the show they're about to see. Anything can happen. It won't be average in any way. I talk about what an awesome year I had and how excited I am about the tour and how I like to go back to Atlanta and rub it in former bullies' faces. I talk about how people wanted me to be Spider-man. I talk about girls, sex, poop, my mom, everything.

VIDEO After stand-up for about 30 min, I get a video call from my future self on my cell phone. He tells me not to do music, awful things happen if I do. I leave the stage and show a video of me talking to my future self. He shows me the terrible things that happen in the future if I continue to do music (I get an awful deal on a boat, I kill all butterflies, Bone Thugs and Harmony stop harmonizing, etc.) I sadly leave the conversation vowing not to do music. During this, my live band creeps on stage and starts to live score the video (it's really awesome). As I'm about to throw out my music, my future self stops me and tells me it's way worse if I don't do music. I thank him and run through the streets back to the concert with the first song of my "Childish Gambino" concert blaring from the live band.

MUSIC I run on stage and begin the concert. The music half of the show has videos from some cool/ famous friends of mine, and depending on where we're playing, they might join me on stage (Reggie Watts does a video cover of my song "Put It In My Video" that freestyle over. It's ill).

In essence IAMDONALD is a show about not letting anyone define you. A lot of my fans tweet or email me saying how they like that I do a lot of things and are held back by people saying "You're a writer. Why are you acting?" or "You can't rap about Tina Fey, you're an actor." The show has a "fuck whatever. I'm young, I can do whatever I want" motto throughout it. You should feel as invincible and as vulnerable as I do on a daily basis in two-hour span.
