ABOUT THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER

"The true meaning of Christmas shines when the classic story about six unruly children taking over a church Christmas pageant takes the stage,"

-- Seattle Times 2014

Based on the award winning children's book by Barbara Robinson, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (BXPE) tells the story of the Herdman clan, a ragtag group of children who go to church for the first time after hearing that they offer snacks and end up with roles in the church's Christmas pageant. Hilarity and madness ensue as the six delinquent children, who prefer to spend their time drinking, smoking and misbehaving, discover the story of Christmas. The play features a cast of young actors alongside adult professionals directed by SPT teaching artist Emily Purington

BXPE was originally published in 1972 as a children's story in McCall's magazine. Robinson was a frequent contributor to the magazine before she imagined this popular story. Now well known for her disturbingly lovable family, The Herdmans, Robinson has brought them to life in other tales including The Best School Year Ever and The Best Halloween Ever.

The story was first performed as a play in Seattle in 1982 by the Seattle Children's Theatre. This is its 15th consecutive year at the Bathhouse. BXPE is the not-to-be-missed holiday favorite for families and kids of all ages.

ABOUT CHRISTMASTOWN: A HOLIDAY NOIR

"... best new holiday romp of the year!"

--Seattle Times 2014

Penned by the Seattle award-winning playwright Wayne Rawley and directed by Seattle Public Theater (SPT) Associate Artistic Director Kelly Kitchens, Christmastown: A Holiday Noir takes a peek at the rougher side of the holiday business. The story follows Nick Holiday, a washed-up detective in Christmastown, who takes a deal tracking down "Big Red," for a client who will stop at nothing to uncover unsavory secrets. Imitating detective hits of the 1940's, Christmastown: A Holiday Noir is packed with film-noir slang, stereotypes, and plot twists.

Rawley is an author, director, actor and teacher. He has created numerous full-length plays including Money & Run: An Action Adventure Serial For The Stage and Live! From the Last Night of My Life, which was a finalist for the David Mark Cohen National Playwriting Award in 2010. In addition to playwriting, Rawley has directed and taught playwriting for the ACT Theatre's Young Playwrights Program at his alma mater, Cornish College of the Arts, and at the University of Oklahoma where he was the 2010 Faith Broome Playwright in Residence. His recent comedy, Christmastown: A Holiday Noir, was commissioned by the SPT and premiered at the Bathhouse Theater December 2014.
