Seattle Beckett Festival to Celebrate the Playwright Throughout the City, Aug-Nov 2014

By:

In the spirit of community, a group of almost 20 theatre companies have joined forces to produce an unprecedented festival. Featuring productions from the largest of companies in town to the smallest, and the words of the most important playwright of the 20th century, Seattle will celebrate Samuel Beckett beginning in August through November.

The opportunity for a community that's already pretty tight knit to come together on a city wide scale and have a conversation about a single writer is a rare opportunity, and one that Seattle is primed and ready to engage in.

Seattle Shakespeare Company and Theatre Puget Sound, in conjunction with various other arts organizations (listed below), bring present a city-wide Seattle Beckett Festival. Featuring not only the plays (such as Waiting for Godot, Endgame, Krapp's Last Tape, Act Without Words parts I & II, etc), but also readings of Beckett's poetry and prose, screenings of his films, master classes on Beckett, pop-up performance events, presentations of the radio plays, and more.

Featuring: ACT Theatre, ArtsWest Theatre, Azeotrope, Book-It Repertory Theatre, Cornish College of the Arts, Eclectic Theater, Endangered Species Project, Ghost Light Theatricals, New Century Theatre, Northwest Film Forum, Operating Theatre, ReAct Theatre, Sandbox Radio, Seattle Shakespeare Company, Seattle University, Sound Theatre, TPS, Theatre on the Waterfront, UMO Ensemble and West of Lenin.

Performances take place at various venues around Seattle, August-November 2014.

This community event will bring together Seattle theatre companies, both large and small, to produce and perform a wide range of Samuel Beckett's work in various venues around Seattle this fall. Beckett was awarded the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature, and this is a fantastic opportunity not only to promote and celebrate this extraordinary author and human being, but also to bring together the incredible local organizations that make-up Seattle's vibrant theatrical landscape.

HOW THE PUBLIC CAN GET INVOLVED NOW: A donation campaign to fund the festival is running on Indiegogo, now through April 13th-not so coincidentally, Samuel Beckett's birthday. The funding received from this campaign will go directly towards operating, promoting, and marketing costs to honor this remarkable man, and ensure this unique collaboration of Seattle's arts organizations can realize the maximum potential of what is sure to be a magical festival! Patrons can visit www.indiegogo.com/projects/seattle-beckett-festival for details on how to support the festival. Information on the organizations and productions involved, audition notices, and more will be available shortly at www.seattlebeckettfest.org.
