Pony World Theatre To Present Award-Winning LANGUAGE ROOMS By Yussef El Guindi

By:

As part of our 10th anniversary year, Pony World Theatre is excited to announce our spring 2019 mainstage production: Language Rooms by Yussef El Guindi. Recipient of the 2009 Edgerton Foundation's New American Play Award and heralded by critics and audiences in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Language Rooms will be presented for the first time in Seattle this spring from April 12 through May 4.

Language Rooms follows Ahmed, a quintessential American worker trying to do his job right while navigating the workplace politics of water cooler gossip and Super Bowl parties. Only this office is a secret military compound where Ahmed translates the interrogations of terrorism suspects. Brilliantly shifting between comedy and suspense, Language Rooms takes Ahmed through a strange and unsettling journey. As his work and even his loyalties are called into question, Ahmed realizes that more than his job might be at risk.

Directed by Brendan Healy. Featuring Lowell Deo, Hisam Goueli, Abhijeet Rane, and George Sayah

Seattle-based playwright Yussef El Guindi's plays have been produced across the nation and even throughout the world. He is a recipient of The 2010 Middle East America Distinguished Playwright Award, the 2012 Steinberg/American Theater Critics Association's New Play Award, and the 2015 Stranger Genius Award. He was born in Egypt and raised in London. He earned his Master of Fine Arts from Carnegie-Mellon University.
