JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, FULL MONTY et al. Play Village Theatre in '10-'11

Village Theatre has announced its 2010-2011 Mainstage Season, comprised of five with five diverse stories. Last season, the Village Theatre achieved an all-time high 18,000 subscribers, and hope to build on that number with a season including two Broadway musicals as well as two world premieres.

THE FULL MONTY

With a book by Terrance McNally (Ragtime) and a score by Emmy-Award winner David Yazbek (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) The Full Monty is based on the internationally acclaimed film of the same title. This grin and bare-it-all comedy tells the story of six average-looking, unemployed steelworkers on the verge of a bold plan to get themselves out of debt, and make amends with those they love. Pushing through fears, building self-esteem, and rediscovering the importance of friendship and family, The Full Monty has great heart. Nominated for nine Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score, this is a feel-good musical with an edgy yet delightfully wicked sensibility.

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
A New Musical

Presented at the Village Originals 9th Annual Festival of New Musical, Anne of Green Gables received a standing ovation from Festival audiences and became an instant favorite. Composer/lyricist/playwrights Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman have been long-standing musical partners, performing together and collaborating on a variety of projects over the years. Their new musical Anne of Green Gables was originally produced by The Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati in 2000, and has since gone on to grace a number of different stages in the form of both readings and developmental productions. Executive producer Robb Hunt comments, "Our Festival audiences loved this new musical, and we are very excited to continue to be part of its journey. We look forward to working with the authors on rewrites and further development as we prepare for the big Mainstage production." This charming musical is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery?s best-selling novel. When the Cuthbert?s expect to adopt a boy, imagine their surprise when a talkative and clever young girl steps off the train in Avonlea. Witness Anne?s transformation from a playful young girl to a confident young woman as she finds her way into the hearts of everyone she meets-despite a knack for getting into trouble! Set to an unforgettably beautiful score, this is an enduring story for all ages.

SLEUTH

Adapted from the 1970s film version, this play by Anthony Shaffer won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1971. Sleuth follows wealthy mystery novelist Andrew Wyke as he invites young Milo Tindle to his elegant, isolated country house to settle a bit of unpleasant business; Milo is having an affair with Andrew?s wife. What begins as a bizarre cat and mouse game of robbery spirals into a complex duel of wits and deception. Packed with thrills, and twists and turns that continue to tip the scale, this Tony Award-winning puzzle will keep you guessing up to the very deadly end!

IRON CURTAIN

The writing team of librettist Susan DiLallo (2008 Jonathan Larson Award winner) and composer Stephen Weiner (2010 Richard Rogers Award winner) have teamed up with acclaimed lyricist Peter Mills (Taxi Cabaret) to develop the outrageous new musical commie-dy Iron Curtain. A 2007 Village Originals Festival favorite, this musical premiered with Prospect Theatre Company in New York City in 2006 and has since been given a number of readings across the country. "We are thrilled to be working with this team of writers again. The experience with ...Jersey was outstanding, and we believe Iron Curtain is going to be just as successful, if not more so," Steve Tomkins, artistic director comments. In Iron Curtain there?s no Communism like Show-Communism! When the Soviets set out to create a Broadway musical, they decide they'll need to bring in some real New York writers - by force, if necessary. Enter Howard and Murray, two down and out musical theatre writers, who are on the brink of throwing in the towel. Kidnapped, taken to Moscow, and forced to fix the worst musical ever written, these two characters suddenly find themselves working under the gun...literally! Written by legendary writing team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar debuted on Broadway in 1971. This powerhouse musical has had dozens of reincarnations across the world, and was last produced at Village Theatre in 1993 in the old theatre space, First Stage Theatre. Next season, this show will explode onto the Mainstage highlighting the struggles of Jesus of Nazareth and Judas Iscariot during the last week of Jesus?s life. With a vibrant score of chart-topping hits like "Superstar" and "I Don?t Know How to Love Him," Superstar is timeless and tremendously powerful.

Village Theatre Mainstage Subscription packages are on sale now in Issaquah and Everett, and offer five shows for the price of four. General admission prices range from $130-$240 (Issaquah), and $140-$215 in (Everett), with additional discounts available for seniors (65+), youth (under 21), and Family Room seats in Issaquah. Single tickets will go on sale intermittently throughout the season beginning in August 2010 in Issaquah and September 2010 in Everett.
