JEEVES IN BLOOM, THE MATCHMAKER and More Headline Taproot Theatre's 2013 Season

Taproot Theatre Company announces the lineup for its 37th season that promises audiences laughter, wit, romance, trickery, reflection and ultimately downright enjoyable entertainment. Featuring a regional premiere, a clever twist on a beloved classic and new approaches to gripping ideas, this season will not disappoint. Taproot Theatre Company's 2013 Season runs from January through October. Resubscriptions and new subscriptions are currently being accepted.

Taproot Theatre's 2013 Season opens with Jeeves in Bloom. Based on characters created by author P.G. Wodehouse, this confectionary treat is a delightful respite from the daily grind as Bertie Wooster's trail of mischief and mayhem is set right by his unflappable valet, Jeeves.

Next comes The Whipping Man, an evocative tale of loyalty, diversity and self-exploration. In Matthew Lopez's highly acclaimed script, a Jewish Confederate soldier and two of his former slaves are left to observe Passover together in the wake of the Civil War, prompting the challenging examination and reconciliation of the past while revealing the fear and uncertainty of venturing into a new future.

In the spring, Taproot Theatre takes you to Germany, 1722 in Bach at Leipzig as the search for the next organist and music director extraordinaire is underway. Rooted in history but reveling in flights of fiction, it is deliciously scored with wild and witty revelations.

Summer brings Illyria, the musical adaptation of Twelfth Night. Complete with all the hilarious hijinks and unrequited love of Shakespeare's famous comedy; be transported to a mythical land of love as these classic characters sing of romance and shenanigans.

Taproot Theatre wraps up its 2013 Season in the fall with The Matchmaker, Thornton Wilder's hit comedy about love, money and the love of money. Unlikely circumstances and hilarious complications bring surprises at every corner in this play that inspired Hello, Dolly! and is described as a romantic comedy for the incurably unromantic.

The Whipping Man

Can loyalty and freedom coexist? A Jewish Confederate soldier returns from war to his house in shambles. Two former slaves greet him, one who stayed and one who is returning. As they observe Passover and remember the Jewish exodus from Egypt their shared pasts and secrets threaten the freedom of all three men.

Bach at Leipzig

The Matchmaker

Thornton Wilder's hit comedy about love, money and the love of money has matchmaking busybody Dolly Levi brokering true love for a wealthy businessman. Will anyone get what their heart desires? Unlikely circumstances and hilarious complications bring surprises at every corner in this play that inspired Hello, Dolly!.

Ticket and Subscription Information:

Performances take place Wednesday through Saturday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays. Taproot Theatre is currently accepting resubscriptions and new subscriptions; single tickets go on sale in January 2013.
