About thePerformance
The Cornish Dance Theater Fall 2011 Concert features the work of visiting artist Danny Buraczeski, guest choreographer Jason Ohlberg, and Cornish faculty members Pat Hon and Wade Madsen. Nationally recognized jazz choreographer Danny Buraczeski's Swing Concerto celebrates two glorious vernacular traditions: Eastern European klezmer music and the swing orchestras of Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. Staged on Cornish dance students over the course of a two week residency, Buraczeski's work is intensely physical and driven by rhythm.

Jason Ohlberg returns to Cornish Dance Theater to premiere Symphony in G Minor: The Pond. This lush, impressionistic piece features music by Mozart and a large cast of dancers that fill the stage with Ohlberg's distinctive movement. Wade Madsen's Water is a study in blue. The dance contrasts contorted lines with the ebb and flow of liquid choreography set to a classical score. Las Hermanas returns to Cornish Dance Theater and was last staged on the company in 2006 by faculty member Pat Hon. This dark drama is infused with a distinctly Spanish feel. Based on the 1945 play La casa de Bernarda Alba, the dance portrays the inner family drama of a domineering matriarch and her 5 daughters. Tragedy unfolds with the arrival of a two-timing suitor.

Danny Buraczeski's residency at Cornish and the staging of Swing Concerto on Cornish Dance Theater were made possible by funding from the Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation.

Please note: the Saturday, November 19 matinee performance will be followed by an informal question and answer period.
