CINDY OF ARC Comes to Intiman Theatre in November

All ticket tiers are now available for Intiman Theatre’s presentation of Cindy of Arc, playing five performances only from November 1-4, 2023 at the Erickson Theatre (1524 Harvard Ave). This rock’n’roll musical is written and performed by Cynthia Kaplan, directed by Emmy Award winner Dani Davis, and was a finalist for the 2023 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater. Select performances will feature a post-show conversation with local leaders, including Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal.

ABOUT THE PLAY: A comedy and music extravaganza about the problem men have with lying and where that's gotten the rest of us, particularly women. And Jews. Cindy of Arc speaks truth to politics, religion, Nazis, dogs, and the guys who wrote Delta Dawn, all in a blisteringly hilarious 70 minutes.

Comedian Judy Gold says, “Cynthia Kaplan is a genius,” and Time Out NY says, “if you’re lucky, Kaplan will sing and play guitar, and then you’ll laugh until you can’t breathe.”

Three performances will be hosted by local leaders benefitting women’s rights nonprofits: Nov. 1 with WBEC (Women’s Business Enterprise Council) Pacific President & CEO Dr. Janice Greene, Nov. 2 with GALvanize USA Founder & Executive Director Jackie Payne, and Nov. 4 at 7:30pm with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal benefitting Cedar-River Clinics.

“Intiman’s 50 year journey is punctuated by several original musicals, and it’s only fitting that we continue that tradition with Cindy of Arc,” says Jennifer Zeyl, Intiman’s Artistic Director. “I am thrilled to welcome acclaimed writer, performer, and fellow dog-mama Cynthia Kaplan to Intiman’s stage. It’s an honor to cross-pollinate with this NYC-based creative team to bring you deep belly laughs and a little punk rock with a strong dash of excruciating truth.”

Tickets are on sale now at intiman.org, ranging from $25-$100. Ten FREE FOR EVERYONE tickets will be available at the box office starting 60 mins before show time on a first come, first served basis. Intiman Members receive 30% off their ticket purchase.

Review: DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID at The 5th Avenue Theatre

In these tumultuous theatrical times, it’s of little surprise that The 5th Avenue Theatre would head back under the sea with a remount of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid”. I mean, they just did it back in 2016. But it’s a crowd pleaser and I suspect a bit of a cash sea cow so here we are. But I still contend that there are two shows here. There’s half of a show that has the story and songs from the late great Howard Ashman that we all remember from the movie, and half of a show where we do our best to enjoy a Glenn Slater lyric. But no matter which half of the show you’re faced with, at least we still get the luminous Diana Huey back as Ariel, the titular mermaid.
