EDINBURGH 2018: Review: BRIEFS: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, Assembly

EDINBURGH 2018: Review: BRIEFS: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, Assembly

Briefs: Close Encounters is a blend of circus, cabaret, burlesque, drag and theatre. We are invited to board the mothership as the sci-fi themed show takes us through 75 minutes of pulsing beats and jaw dropping acrobatics.

The pace of the show drops a little in the middle as the host delivers a political speech to the audience. Everything about this show feels political and inclusive and the message is clear so this feels unnecessary.

The mix of genres is what makes this such an exciting production. The show is divided up into sections and jumps from burlesque/circus to comedy/drag and even includes some pretty impressive science experiments.

Briefs: Close Encounters is a hugely high energy show with a party atmosphere. It is a celebration of all things weird and wonderful with a healthy dose of sass and glitter.
