BWW speaks to Frank Tamburin, producer of Dusty Horne's Sound And Fury, ahead of its run at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Who is Dusty Horne?

The greatest foley artist of all time, in her own mind at least. Dusty's recorded sound effects for all the greats: Jimmy Stewart, Boris Karloff, Alfred Hitchcock, but she's never gotten the credit she deserves. Until now. It's 1963 and Dusty finally has a chance to share her craft, tell her story, and show the world that she is the true keeper of the secret world of foley.

Why did you decide to tell her story?

It's evocative to be transported by live sound effects - and thrilling to watch someone sync live sounds to films: footsteps, gunshots, breaking bones! All these sounds we take for granted while watching films or TV, but someone has to perform them. Our play is a fascinating glimpse at those artists behind the scenes that we hear but rarely get a chance to see.

Who would you recommend comes to see Dusty Horne's Sound and Fury?

Anyone who's looking for a unique experience and a funny, touching story. There's a little Dusty in all of us, wanting recognition, to have lived a worthwhile life. But most of all, the show's an enjoyable romp through some wonderful and wacky movies! The Hitchcock Estate and Roger Corman among others have kindly agreed to let us use their films in the play, so we get to experience some famous cinematic moments like never before.

Is this your first time at the Fringe? Do you think you know what to expect?

Natasha Pring (who's playing Dusty Horne) has performed before in The Love Project in 2013. And Edmund Digby-Jones who's playing Nicholas, Dusty's long-suffering assistant, is a proper Fringe veteran. So we're forewarned!

Are there any other shows you're hoping to see at the festival?

Definitely. Many more than this but for brevity's sake: Mr Incredible, Margaret Thatcher Queen of Gameshows, Showstopper! And we'll undoubtedly go see Austentatious, because they're always awesome. And Knightmare Live. Because, Knightmare. Live.
