Asolo Rep Raises More Than $30,000 for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief

Throughout Asolo Rep's sold-out run of EVITA (Nov. 14 - Dec. 30), the theatre has collected donations for Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria relief in Puerto Rico. The initiative was inspired by Ana Isabelle (Eva Perón in EVITA), a celebrated Puerto Rican recording artist and actress who traveled from New York City to Puerto Rico to be with her family during the devastation of Hurricane Maria. The theatre has raised more than $30,000.

All funds raised will go directly to United for Puerto Rico, First Lady of Puerto Rico Beatriz Rosselló's initiative, in collaboration with the private sector, to provide aid and support for those impacted by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. All of the proceeds will go toward helping the victims.

"Asolo Rep has quickly become a second home and family for me," said Ana Isabelle. "I could not be more honored and touched by the theatre's generosity and support of the Island I love so dearly. The fact that I can do something from here to help my people makes this musical even more special to me."

The fundraiser will continue through January 2. Donations are accepted at the conclusion of each performance of EVITA and also during normal box office hours in the lobby of the theatre. The box office (5555 North Tamiami Trail) is open Monday 10am - 5pm, Tuesday - Thursday 10am - 7:30pm, Friday - Saturday 10am - 8pm, and Sunday 10am - 2pm. The box office closes at 5pm when there are no evening performances and phone lines close one hour prior to the start of any performance. Cash and checks (made payable to United for Puerto Rico) are accepted in person only.

"We are enormously proud to have been able to come together as an organization and as a community to support our tenacious leading lady and her home," said Asolo Rep Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards. "Ana's passion for Puerto Rico, her family and her culture is deeply inspiring and radiates in her tour de force portrayal of Eva Perón on stage."
