Ray of Light Theatre (www.rayoflighttheatre.com) will bring Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods to the San Francisco stage this June at The Eureka Theatre. Described as bold, thought-provoking and alarmingly funny, Into the Woods is the type of theatrical experience that will make you think, laugh and leave with a tune in your head and a kick in your step. Featuring a talented cast of local performers and live, on-stage musicians, this mystical story comes to life like never before. We'll continue our season with CARRIE the Musical, opening October 4th at San Francisco's historic and ornate Victoria Theatre.

Into the Woods humorously combines a number of classic fairy tales into one hilarious, touching, over-arching narrative. A baker and his wife are assigned a number of tasks by a nearby witch; only after completing these duties will they be able to bear children. During their quest to fulfill the witches' demands, they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and numerous other fairy tale figures. The traditional stories are parodied and altered at will, yet the original fairy tales' sense of wonder and, at times, darkness remains intact. The score, winner of Broadway's Tony Award, includes such songs as Children Will Listen, Giants in the Sky and No One Is Alone.

Ray of Light knows how to mount blockbuster productions, and our 2013 Season will surely go down as our best and most ambitious yet. Past triumphs include wildly successful and critically recognized productions of Sweeney Todd in 2012 (winner of one and nominated for 6 BATCC Awards), The Full Monty (2012), Assassins in 2011 (winner of 8 BATCC Awards), Jerry Springer the Opera in 2010 (nominated for 9 BATCC Awards), BABY: A Musical in 2010 (winner of 6 BATCC Awards), The Who's Tommy in 2009 (winner of 6 BATCC Awards),The Rocky Horror Show in 2008 (nominated for 5 BATCC Awards) as well as Bat Boy: The Musical in 2005 and 2006 (named a Top 10 show of the year by The SF Bay Guardian).
