Through the 10-Minute Play Festival and the 24-Hour Playwriting Festival, the Marin Young Playwrights Festival celebrates the work of teen playwrights in Marin County and encourages a focus on playwriting in local high schools. Each fall, teens who live in Marin are encouraged to submit original scripts to the 10-Minute Play Festival. The Teen Apprentice Program, which is made up of local high school students who serve as ambassadors between MTC and the teen community in Marin County, reviews the scripts in a blinded process and selects eight finalists. Directed by MTC teaching artists, local teens perform the finalist plays at the annual festival held at MTC.
MTC's artistic staff serves as judges and selects one winning script. Now in its sixth year, the Marin Young Playwrights Festival is sponsored by MTC and produced by the company's Teen Apprentice Program. This season, the Teen Advisory Board selected the eight finalists from 73 submissions.
