Connie Champagne brings her remarkable portrayal of Judy Garland in "Judy Garland-The Original Stonewall Rriot Grrrl" to The Rrazz Room, Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason, SF, Wednesday, June 24 at 8 PM. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at www.therrazzroom.com or directly through www.ticketweb.com or 866 468 3399.

Ms. Champagne's show commemorates the Stonewall Riots, which began the night hundreds of people visited the funeral home where Judy Garland lay in state and then gathered at the Stonewall Bar afterwards. But it is her performance that brings Judy Garland to life, assembling the repertoire Garland herself might sing today, including her best known classics. Champagne's show has been called "a subtle masterpiece of parody and homage" by the New York Times.

A California native and graduate of Mills College, and MFA graduate of The American Conservatory Theatre, Connie Champagne began her eclectic career with roles at San Francisco's Magic Theatre and Theatre on the Square. She was recruited by director Phillip R. Ford to portray the cult heroine Neely O'Hara in his long-running stage adaptation of Valley of the Dolls, which inspired her interest in drag as a theatrical form. An "unwitting pioneer of the Cocktail Nation," Champagne was the winner of the SF Weekly Wammie Award for Outstanding Cabaret Performer for Connie Champagne and her Tiny Bubbles. She is also the winner of the Bay Area Critics Circle Award for Lead Actress In A Musical; Winner-LA's Ovation Award for Lead Actress In A Musical Visit; and Winner-Dean Goodman Award for Outstanding Cabaret show for IMAGINE Judy Garland: An Evening With Connie Champagne.
