Beach Blanket Babylon To Welcome Big Gay Ice Cream Truck to S.F. 8/22

By:

Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, the world's longest running musical revue, will join Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream in welcoming Manhattan's Big Gay Ice Cream Truck for a one-night-only special event on Sunday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream (2790 Harrison Street at 24th Street, San Francisco).

In what is being described as an "East-Coast-meets-West-Coast big gay ice cream double," (SF Weekly's SFoodie), the event will feature a special sundae created by Jake Godby (Humphry Slocombe) and Douglas Quint (The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck). Beach Blanket Babylon's Glinda the Good Witch (Chavé Alexander) will be on-hand to help pass out the sundaes. The Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin will also be in attendance for the premiere of her never-before-heard theme song, "The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck."

The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck began rolling the streets of New York City in June 2009. Described by The Village Voice as "a cross between Mister Softee and Mario Batali," their menu combines traditional soft-serve ice cream with imaginative toppings such as wasabi pea dust, Nilla Wafers, Dulce de Leche, olive oil and sea salt, and other rotating offerings. These are dispensed the way ice cream should be - with humor and good cheer.

Since opening its doors in 2008, Humphry Slocombe has challenged ice cream conventions with its variety of unique and unusual flavors, including Secret Breakfast - bourbon ice cream with cornflakes, Prosciutto, Peanut Butter Curry and Balsamic Caramel. The brainchild of pastry chef Jake Godby, Humphry Slocombe was recently named one of the "100 Best New Food and Drink Experiences" by Food and Wine magazine. The name Humphry Slocombe comes from Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe, two colorful characters from the classic British comedy series, "Are You Being Served?"

Recently hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by The San Francisco Chronicle, the always-changing Beach Blanket Babylon is the world's longest running musical revue. Packed with hilarious spoofs of pop culture & political characters, outrageously gigantic hats and one show-stopping number after another, the show continues to dazzle audiences at Club Fugazi in San Francisco's North Beach district.
