YOU SAY TOMATO, I SAY SHUT UP! Plays Lyceum Theatre, Now thru 8/18
The national tour of the hilarious new show You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up!, a comedy that People magazine called "LAUGH OUT LOUD!", continues its national tour with a premiere in San Diego at downtown's Lyceum Theatre, 79 Horton Plaza, today, July 24-August 18, 2013.
Presented by Philip Roger Roy and Dana Matthow, the producers of My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm In Therapy!,RESPECT: A Musical Celebration of Women, and My Son The Waiter, A Jewish Tragedy!, Tomato is touring the country with stops including extended runs in Boston, Phoenix, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The book was developed through sold-out performances at The Comedy Central Theatre and at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, and made its New York premiere at The New York Comedy Festival in 2009.

After 17 years of marriage, writers-actors-and real-life-married-couple Annabelle Gurwitch ("Dinner and a Movie," Fired!) and Jeff Kahn("The Ben Stiller Show," The 40-Year-Old Virgin) have adapted their hilarious, often moving, memoir, You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up!,for the stage, directed by Van Kaplan.
This 75-minute tour de force, You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up!, takes a humorous look at a relationship that seems challenged from the start, by powerful, opposing personalities. But after trials and tribulations, they learn to navigate the conflicts that come with romance, money, and children by embracing each other's differences, taking on parenting as a competitive sport, and dropping out of couple's therapy. Their delightfully crazy lifestyle has managed to keep their relationship intact, up-ending every idea you ever had about living "happily ever after.
