Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the addition of two new educational programs for children: Theatre Tots, a program for young children and the Middle School Summer Intensive. These unique programs join the previously announced four-week Summer Shakespeare Intensive for High School-aged actors and actresses.

Theatre Tots is a series of 90-minute Saturday morning classes that introduce children ages 4, 5 and 6 to the art of acting through the exploration of children's literature. Led by an Old Globe Teaching Artist, the students are introduced to the elements of story, voice, movement and imagination through an interactive read-aloud story time. Parents return for the final 15 minutes of class to watch their children perform a short play presentation of the story of the day. Theatre Tots will take place on Saturdays, April 10 & 24, May 8 & 22 and June 5 & 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost per class is $25. A 10% discount applies for enrollment in three or more sessions.

The Middle School Summer Intensive is a two-week program that provides students in grades 6, 7 and 8 with powerful theater training in a professional-level environment. Instructed by Old Globe Teaching Artists, students will participate in daily physical, vocal and creative exercises and participate in workshops with members of the Globe/USD Master of Fine Arts program and the professional actors of the Summer Shakespeare Festival. The series of 10 five-hour sessions includes training in movement, voice and speech, improvisation and stage combat. Students will also go behind the scenes at the Globe's three theater facilities to meet artists and technicians and learn first-hand how a professional theater operates. On the final day of class, the students will present a 45-minute performance of scenes and demonstrations of theater exercises for friends and family in the Globe's new Hattox Hall. The Middle School Summer Intensive will take place on weekdays, July 26 - 30 and August 2 - 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost per student is $550.
