By: Nicole Rosky
The Russian National Ballet Theatre prepares us for Valentine's day with a two-day program of romance and enchantment at the Balboa Theatre; presenting Romeo & Juliet on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 8PM and Cinderella on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2PM.
Love fills the air in Romeo & Juliet's timeless tale of love and sacrifice in a full-length Ballet with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, original choreography by Marius Petipa, restaged by Yuri Vetrov. The enduring rivalry between the Montague and Capulet families forbids the blissful love blossoming between the Montague son Romeo and Capulet daughter Juliet, to tragic results. Under the artistic direction of Elena Radchenko, Prokofiev's masterpiece Cinderella remains an enchanting fairy tale of everlasting love. This beloved classic is overflowing with lyrical romance and dramatic grandeur. The rags to riches story told through dance as only a classic ballet company could. Watch as the kind Cinderella dances away her troubles and into the arms of the handsome prince. With a company of 50 dancers, including a large corps de ballet, the Russian National Ballet Theatre has focused on upholding the grand tradition of major Russian ballet works.Tickets can be purchased online at:
