OnStage Playhouse Launches Community Conversation About Gun Violence

OnStage Playhouse Launches Community Conversation About Gun Violence ImageSan Diego Theatre Connection is Creating Community with OnStage Playhouse (www.onstageplayhouse.org) to continue the national discussion about gun use and violence in our schools. OnStage Playhouse, long established in Chula Vista, feels strongly that a theatre can become a forum for the community to come together in honest and open conversation about issues that concern us all. Managing Director, James P. Darvas says, "change requires meaningful conversations. They help us understand what is happening, to learn from each other, and to find ways to move forward using the insight and knowledge of those interested in the issues."

On Wednesday, May 23rd at 7pm the Playhouse will hold its first COMMUNITY CONVERSATION concerning the current epidemic of school mass shootings and the debate over the second amendment right to bear arms. The event will include a staged reading of the play "26 Pebbles" by Eric Ulloa, which explores the power of community in the face of the grade-school shooting tragedy in Newtown, CT. The New York playwright has endorsed the event proclaiming, "(this) is the EXACT reason I wrote in the play in the first place. To create conversations in communities! Bravo OnStage Playhouse." Ulloa is working with San Diego Theatre Connection to promote the evening on social media and will speak to the audience through a video message. He based his play on interviews he conducted with Newtown residents in the months following the fatal shooting of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School. An open discussion will follow the reading.

OnStage Playhouse is located at 291 Third Avenue, Chula Vista 91912. This is a FREE event. We ask audience members to register at the theatre box office 619 422-7787 as seating is limited.
