For those who love the hard-boiled fiction of Raymond Chandler and James M. Cain and the gritty film noirs their stories inspired, a night of "theatre noir" will be unveiled this September at North Coast Rep.

Impro Theatre will pay tribute to Noir's tough-taking private eyes and femme fatales. From the brutal sneer of Mickey Spillane's Kiss Me Deadly to the cynical chivalry of Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity, Noir's poetry and violence, desire and destiny all find new life through unpredictable staging, improvisational wit and verbal dexterity.

Rogue cop, doomed lover, corrupt robber baron, sadistic killer, B Girl or chanteuse - no actor knows what role he, or she, may be asked to play when stepping out to improvise.

Using only a suggestion from the audience to kick off the show, Impro Theatre tackles the hard-hitting and sensuous world of SoCal. in the 1940's and 50s - while spontaneously creating a completely original and entertaining story each performance. Impro's funny and gifted actors use their guts and imaginations to invent character and story on the spot.

Directed by Brian Lohmann, who directed last years critically acclaimed Tennessee Williams UNSCRIPTED, FILM NOIR UNSCRIPTED is the latest unscripted play from Impro Theatre. This company's ongoing exploration of great literary figures include Tennessee Williams, Dickens, Sondheim and Jane Austen.  They were named one the LA Weekly's Top Ten Theatrical Events of 2009.

Tickets are available only at North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach at 987 Lomas Santa Fe Drive, Suite D, 92075. For ticket information or reservations call (858)-481-1055 or visit www.northcoastrep.org. Box Office hours are Noon to 4pm daily and Noon to Curtain day of shows.
