Diversionary Theatre to Present BOYS & GIRLS, 2/20-3/23
Diversionary Theatre will bring the West-Coast Premiere of Tom Donaghy's chaotic comedy to their 2014 Season. This new year of theatre-making will share stories inspired by discovering, maneuvering, and celebrating our unique personal identities in the LGBT community. BOYS & GIRLS is first up to ardently represent this inspired theme.
Bev, Shelly, Reed and Jason are two couples who are attempting to put away their wild pasts in order to tackle the challenges of adulthood. Bev and Shelly, a lesbian couple with multifarious levels to their long-term relationship, have come to the conclusion that their 5-year old son is in need of a father figure. Their best friend Reed quickly becomes the best choice for role model in this alternative arrangement, and he must decide whether he'd like to take on this responsibility, or continue an unhealthy entanglement with his emotionally wrought ex-boyfriend Jason.
"Audiences can look forward to a new dialogue in LGBT theatre. This play addresses the very human transition of growing up and takes for granted that we now have a generation of gay and lesbian people who get to struggle with marriage, children and life out in the open and it's about damn time." - Shana Wride, Director of BOYS AND GIRLS.
