Diversionary Theatre and MOXIE Theatre will celebrate the kick off of their 2011/2012 seasons with the U.S. Premiere of Canadian playwright Michele Riml's new play Poster Boys with performances July 7 - July 31, 2011 at Diversionary Theatre.

In Poster Boys, Catherine is a fast-thinking and even faster-talking ad executive whose advertising firm has hired a gay couple to promote a bank's "diversity" campaign. When the Catholic Church condemns the bank for "promoting the homosexual lifestyle," Catherine can handle the controversy. What she can't handle is that one of the Poster Boys is her ex-fiancé. Riml's comedy explores commitment and the fear that we all share of being true to ourselves as Catherine struggles with the choices she has made to make it to the top of her field and two men find their personal lives in the limelight. This piercingly funny play was inspired by a real event in Vancouver, BC in which the Catholic Church threatened to pull funding from a VanCity Credit Union Children's Banking Program in response to the banks diversity campaign.

Diversionary Theatre and MOXIE Theatre have a history of creating great work together. "It's perfect that Diversionary launches its fresh new season in collaboration with Delicia and MOXIE Theatre," said Diversionary's new Executive Director, John E. Alexander. "The exciting breadth in the San Diego theatre scene is a big part of what drew me back here and I'm thrilled that the first Diversionary show I'm working on is with these talented people." The shared passion for producing new plays has led to several exciting co-productions in the past such as the critically acclaimed and award-winning productions Pulp! and Bluebonnet Court. They're celebrating the kick off of their next seasons is an exciting U.S. Premiere of a new play by Canadian playwright Michele Riml. "Poster Boys is a smart and sexy comedy which combines what MOXIE and Diversionary Theatre do best," says MOXIE Artistic Director and the director of the premiere production Delicia Turner Sonnenberg. "It's smart, sexy, political and wickedly funny."

Since 1986, Diversionary Theatre has produced plays with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender themes that portray characters in their complexity and diversity both historically and contemporarily.
