Utah Arts Alliance and Grand Theatre Present The BIG Small World Show 11/5

By:

The resonance of a Taiko drum, the grace of Irish dance, ancient ritual of Aztec dance, the beat and bounce of hip hop--all of these artistic traditions and more are celebrated in "The BIG Small World Show" at the Grand Theatre on Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m.

The theatre, in conjunction with the Utah Arts Alliance, is launching a world music and dance series. Performing groups in this inaugural show include Samba Fogo, Salt Lake Capoeira, B-Boy Federation, Blue Lotus Dance Collective, Taiko Japanese Drum Group, Electric Brae Highland Dance, Celtic Journey Dance Company, and Danza Azteca Nahui Ehecatl. Samba Fogo and Blue Lotus are local favorite groups that have performed at the Utah Arts Festival and other area venues.

Tickets are $5-$15 and can be purchased at The Grand Theatre box office at (801) 957-3447 or online at www.the-grand.org. There is also a family rate of $30 for two adults and four children. Salt Lake Community College students receive free admission.

"The Salt Lake community is known for the talented individuals who live here," said Richard Scott, Executive & Artistic Director of The Grand Theatre. "It makes sense to bring together not just the talent, but the diversity of our community and showcase the various artistic styles that are represented here. And we have the perfect venue in which to do it." For this show, The Grand Theatre is working with the Utah Arts Alliance, a local non-profit that promotes programming and education opportunities to artists and performing groups. Derek Dyer, Executive Director of the Utah Arts Alliance is producing the show. "Having a venue where so many of Utah's talented performers can be on stage at the same time in a professional setting is a great step forward for the state's preforming arts groups, musicians and patrons." Another collaborative world music and dance event is scheduled for March 30, 2012.

Support for the BIG Small World Show comes in part from the Salt Lake Community College Arts and Cultural Events, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, The George S and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and the Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts, and Parks program.
