Salt Lake Community College Dance Company has gathered community dancers to perform with them in their fall concert titled, Moving Stories. This concert features dances that have strong narrative themes based on personal and cultural stories. Community professionals, including Movement Forum dancers, SLCC faculty and former students, as well as Utah Valley University dancers will also perform on Friday and Saturday, November 20 & 21, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Theater, 1575 South State Street. Tickets are $8 or HALF PRICE if two non-perishable food items are brought in for the Utah Food Bank. SLCC students and staff receive FREE admission with a current SLCC I.D. and 2 food items. For tickets, call the Grand Theater box office: 957-3322.

Cultural stories will be presented, including one based on an Afro-Brazilian healing ritual by guest choreographer, Lorin Hansen, and a West African harvest celebration by Rosie Banchero, both with live drummers. The personalities of magical woodland fairies will come to life through choreography by UVU faculty, Ashley Mott. Contemporary dance takes on personal stories about the transformation of releasing the past, individual redemption, and finding humor in growing older. A hip-hop piece will explore the increasing prevalence of violence in our world.

About this upcoming concert, the director, Tess Boone, SLCC Associate Professor of Dance offered, "We have always strived to present a performance that has a lot of variety and interest, and this concert is no exception. We have dances that will make you think and movement that will make you smile!"

Boone added, "Including community professionals and other student dancers in our performance is an exciting way to fulfill our mission as a community college."
