Pioneer Theatre Hosts Panel Discussion of Themes in CLYBOURNE PARK Tonight

In conjunction with Pioneer Theatre Company's production of Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris, a panel discussion of the relevance of the themes in this Pulitzer- and Tony Award-winning play will take place tonight, February 21, 2013. The panel discussion is free and open to the public.

Members of the panel include Robert "Archie" Archuleta B.A., Sydney Cheek-O'Donnell Ph.D., Theresa Martinez Ph. D. and Yamila Martinez M.Ed. Martine Kei Green-Rogers Ph.D. will moderate the discussion.

Robert Archuleta is a life-long activist, educator and civil rights advocate. He is a member of the Utah Coalition of La Raza, the Centro Civico Mexicano, the SL County Hispanic Democratic Caucus, the Center for Documentary and Expressive Arts, the Concerned Citizens Committee, the Alliance for Unity and the Enriching Utah Coalition. He has earned several awards over the years, including the Quijote Lifetime Achievement award from the U. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Charles E. Bennett Humanitarian and Civil Rights award from the Utah Education Association.

Sydney Cheek-O'Donnell, head of the Theatre Studies Department at the University of Utah since 2005, teaches Dramaturgy, Directing, Theatre and Theory, Gender on the Global Stage, Science on Stage, and the History of Theatre. She is currently the Editor of Review: The Journal of Dramaturgy and creator of forum theatre workshops for the Utah Pediatric Partnership to Improve Healthcare Quality. She is dramaturg on Pioneer Theatre Company's current production of Clybourne Park.

Theresa Martinez is currently Associate Professor of Sociology and former Assistant Vice President for Academic Outreach at the University of Utah. Her teaching and research deal with issues of race, class and gender, deviant behavior, juvenile delinquency, and popular culture. Martinez has published articles in Sociological Perspectives, Sociological Spectrum, the Utah Law Review, and Race, Gender & Class: An Interdisciplinary Journal. She also co-edited the anthology Intersections of Gender, Race, and Class: Readings for a Changing Landscape (2007).

Yamila Martinez immigrated to the United States from Argentina in 1997. She is an administrative program coordinator from the office of Engagement at the University of Utah. Martinez's efforts consist of building sustainable K-16 pipelines through mentorship, cohort building and providing engagement opportunities for undergraduate students. Her scholarly work demonstrates and informs her interdisciplinary understanding of the experiences of students of color in education through liberatory practices, Critical Race Theory and Youth Participatory Action Research. Martinez has worked with the Mestizo Arts & Activism (MAA) Collective since the winter of 2009. She currently serves as one of the co-directors of the collective.

Martine Kei Green-Rogers is a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Theatre Department at the University of Utah, with a Ph.D. from the Department of Theatre and Drama at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently the Associate Dramaturg on Pioneer Theatre Company's production of Clybourne Park. Recent dramaturgical credits include: Miss Julie, The Triumph of Love, Uncle Vanya, The Tempest, Antigone, Ghosts and Tartuffe at the Classical Theatre Company (Houston, TX); Home and Porgy and Bess at the Court Theatre (Chicago, IL); The Clean House at CATCO (Columbus, OH); To Kill a Mockingbird, The African Company Presents Richard III, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Fences at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (Ashland, OR).

Pioneer Theatre Company's Panel discussion: "The Price of Change: Neighborhood Identity in Clybourne Park and Salt Lake City" will take place on Thursday, February 21, 2013, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at The University of Utah's Babcock Auditorium (Basement level, Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre), 300 South 1400 East, Salt Lake City.
