Park City Institute presents BEAUTIFUL BOY: An evening with David Sheff and Nic Sheff, at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center, Saturday, December 15th, 2018, at 7:30 PM.

"The Sheffs' story has struck a chord in our collective consciousness, in part because of this father and son's willingness to lay bare their family's struggle," said PCI Executive Director Teri Orr. "We are fortunate that David and Nic are making a rare joint appearance to share their views on addiction and mental wellness, with our community."

Their bestselling memoirs are the basis for the 2018 film, Beautiful Boy, starring Steve Carrell, and Timothée Chalamet. David is an award-winning journalist who, along with Nic, chronicle the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery-and how their family has coped with addiction over many years.

David Sheff is an award-winning journalist who first chronicled the heartbreaking experience of parenting a child with addiction disorder, in the article, "My Addicted Son," which appeared in the New York Times Magazine. The article won a special award from the American Psychological Association for "outstanding contribution to the understanding of addiction." Beautiful Boy, published in a dozen languages, was named the year's Best Nonfiction Book by Entertainment Weekly, an Amazon "Best Books of 2008," and it won first place in the Barnes and Noble Discover Award in nonfiction. He is also the author of Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America's Greatest Tragedy. Clean is the result of the years David spent investigating the disease of addiction and America's drug problem, which he sees as the greatest public health challenge of our time. David was named to the Time 100, Time Magazine's list of the World's Most Influential People. The Partnership for Drug-free Kids honored him with a Special Tribute Award "in recognition of his voice and leadership for families who are struggling with addiction." He was also awarded the College of Problems on Drug Dependence (CPDD) Media Award, American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) Media Award, and American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Media Award "to recognize his compelling portrayal of addiction and its personal effects on families and society as a whole."

Nic Sheff is the author of two memoirs about his struggles with addiction: the New York Times bestselling Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines and We All Fall Down: Living with Addiction. Nic lives in Los Angeles, California where he writes for film and television.
