Review: Megan Hilty is a Star at the SCERA

Tony-nominated Broadway and television actress Megan Hilty was an absolute star in her concert with the Utah Valley Symphony at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

Hilty's powerhouse, multifaceted vocals and sparkling, likable personality combined to create a phenomenal concert that left no room to doubt why she has so many devoted fans.

The lead of NBC's SMASH opened the evening with a tour de force performance of one of its most memorable numbers, "They Just Keep Moving the Line," followed by the beautiful, vulnerable ballad "Second Hand White Baby Grand." Later in the show, she surprised with a yearning, explosive medley of "Don't Forget Me" and the signature song "Let Me Be Your Star."

Another highlight of the concert was a cover of "The Heart of the Matter" from Hilty's first solo album, in which she was able to showcase the thrilling pop vocals she utilized on SMASH.

Her set list also included the standards "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Get Happy," the hilarious "Alto's Lament," the brassy "Diamond's are a Girl's Best Friend" from GENTLEMAN PREFER BLONDES, and two numbers from WICKED, in which she performed for more than four years: "Popular" and a tender rendition of "For Good."

It was a gift to appreciate Hilty's versatile voice and enjoyable banter, accompanied by a live orchestra, under the stars at the SCERA's intimate outdoor venue.
