SPACE on Ryder Farm Seeks Submissions for 2014 Artistic Residencies; Deadline Today

By:

SPACE on Ryder Farm is now accepting submissions for artistic residencies for its 2014 nonprofit season, which will take place June through September in Brewster, NY.

Housed on a working organic farm, SPACE's artistic residencies provide theater artists the opportunity to create away from the bustle of every day life and work in the company of other artists in the field in a bucolic and inspirational setting. Select writers are provided with housing and meals for a small subsidized stipend. Artists are encouraged to structure their days how best serves the needs of their projects. Artistic residencies culminate in informal sharing events with fellow artists and SPACE community members.

Submissions are being accepted through today, March 8. The application fee is $10. Click here to apply.

Led by founding Executive Director Emily Simoness, this emerging player in the theater community provides writers with two to six night residencies on the property of the oldest operating farm in Putnam County. Ryder Farm has been in the Ryder family since 1795 and was a pioneer in America's green movement by becoming one of the first farms to go organic in the 1970s. SPACE sources the majority of the prepared seasonal meals directly from the organic produce at Ryder Farm.

SPACE's mission is to support artist by providing a workshop space singular in its ability to reinvigorate the artist's spirit and work. In three seasons' time, SPACE has hosted over 200 artists, fostering new work from some of the nation's most exciting artists including playwrights Sam Hunter, Young Jean Lee, Adam Rapp, Lucy Thurber (Hill Town plays), Dan LeFranc (The Big Meal), Madeleine George (The Curious Case of the Watson Intelligence), Molly Smith Metzler (Elemeno Pea), Bekah Brunstetter (Be a Good Little Widow, Oorah!), Mat Smart (Samuel J. and K.), Nick Jones (The Coward), Joshua Harmon (Bad Jews), and Erika Sheffer (Russian Transport), as well as theater companies Manhattan Theatre Club, Rattlestick Playwright's Theater, Ars Nova, Naked Angels, Transport Group and Woodshed Collective.
