Hawking, Rhoads, Domig & Philabaum Lead Hudson Stage's LOVE SONG, 4/23-5/8

By:

Hudson Stage Company proudly announces the cast for its upcoming spring mainstage production, LOVE SONG, by John Kolvenbach.

Judith Hawking will appear as Joan. She has been seen on Broadway in "Voices in the Dark" and at Lincoln Center in "Ivanov". She was a Drama Desk Nominee for her work in the Mint Theatre production of "A Soldier's Wife" and has many NY credits including the Signature Theatre and Playwrights' Horizons. She's done the Triple Crown with all the "Law and Order" series, with a recurring role on the original, as well as guest starring in several series and films.
Judith is a recent resident of Westchester County.

Kurt Rhoads will play Joan's husband, Harry. He most recently appeared as Thomas More in "A Man for All Seasons" at the Arvada Center for the Arts in Colorado. He crosses over to Hudson Stage from several seasons with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, where he has performed to audience and critical acclaim the roles of Macbeth, Benedick, Petruchio, Oberon, as well as directing several productions including this summer's upcoming "Taming of the Shrew". Kurt has appeared on Broadway in "Julius Caesar" and has been seen regionally at major theatres including The Old Globe, Kennedy Center, Trinity Rep and the Arena Stage. He is a co-founder of TrueNorth Theatre Project and is married to the actress Nance Williamson. They live in Putnam County.

Christopher Domig will play Joan's brother, Beane. A talented young actor, he most recently won the Outstanding Actor Award for the FringeNYC for his work in "Dirt". He has performed internationally in Berlin, London, Edinburgh and Austria and regionally at Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Christopher recently worked with Academy- nominated director Bobby Garabedian, playing the lead in the short film "Renew".

AUBYN PHILABAUM rounds out the cast as Molly, Beane's love interest. A recent graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she was recently named one of the Twelve Freshest Faces of 2009 in New York Theater (Patrick Lee, justshowstogoyou.com) for her work in InViolet Rep's Kiss Me On The Mouth, directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis. She has worked both regionally and in NY with The Yale Rep, ACT, InViolet Rep, Cry Havoc, Singularity, Naked Angels and the Lark Theatre.

Love Song, Kolvenbach's new romantic comedy will be directed by HSC co-producer Dan Foster director of last fall's Rabbit Hole. The production begins performances on Friday April 23 and continues through Saturday May 8. Performances are held at Pace University's Woodward Hall Theatre located at 235 Elm Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY. Tickets are $30 general admission. $25 seniors/students can be purchased at www.SMARTTIX.com or through www.hudsonstage.com. Group rates and Pace University discounts are available. Call 914-271-2811 for further information and performance schedule.

Richly comic, enchanting and wonderfully touching, Love Song is an off-beat romantic comedy about the contagious effects of love. The play received its world premiere at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company and the subsequent London production received an Olivier Award nomination for Best New Comedy. Chicago Tribune critic Chris Jones declared the show "A refreshing spring breeze...dreamy, gentle, slightly silly...sending you out into spring thinking about love." And the London Telegraph called Love Song, "One of the best plays of the year. A smashing, compassionate new play." The play is R-rated for language and theme.

The play will be produced by Denise Bessette and Olivia Sklar. Joel Goss serves as Associate producer. The design team will include Amy Clark (costumes) Andreea Mincic (scenery) Andrew Gmoser (lighting), and Jon Kadela (sound design.)

PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGES: I Can't Believe Its Not Memorized, The 4th annual Young Playwrights Festival featuring original one-act plays from students at Briarcliff High School will be held on Thursday, April 8th. All staged readings are held in Woodward Hall Theatre at 7:30pm and are followed by a discussion with the playwright, actors and director. General Admission is $10.00. Bonus free staged reading on Fri. June 4th at Croton Free Library TBA.

These events are made possible, in part, by the generous support of Pace University and a grant from ArtsWestchester.
