Courthouse Center For The Arts Premieres Violet A Musical about Beauty, Racism, and Love Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? Can a person feel beautiful on the inside and not feel it on the outside?

It's 1964, the Civil Rights Movements has just started, and a young woman is making her way across the Deep South to seek out a TV evangelist, in hopes of a cure. Violet was scarred as a young girl by an axe blade and she wants nothing more than to have her face healed so people will no longer exclude her or look at her strangely. Along her journey she finds an unexpected ally in a young black solider, with whom she discovers an instant bond and finds herself falling in love with. This bond and love fights against all the odds she's ever been dealt in her short life time. Her new soldier friend teaches her the true meaning of love, beauty, fortitude, and what it means to be different.

Violet is one of the most acclaimed off-Broadway shows and is not afraid to deal with important, sensitive issues. It astounded critics and audiences with its powerfully meaningful story, and its energetic, toe-tapping Gospel, Rock, Country, and Rhythm and Blues score by Jeanine Tesori and its well-crafted lyrics and book by Brian Crawley. Violet is based off of the short story The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts.
