The Gamm Theatre's BOOM! Closes

By:

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) present Boom, described as "an explosive, highly acclaimed comedy by rising American playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. Gamm Resident Director FrEd Sullivan, Jr., directs this delightfully warped and ultimately hopeful view of the apocalypse through the eyes of a marine biology grad student as he prepares for the end of the world. Developed in Rhode Island at Brown/Trinity Playwright's Rep, Boom was America's most produced play of 2009-2010, according to Theatre Communications Group."

Boom runs through April 8 at The Gamm Theatre, 172 Exchange St., Pawtucket, RI. Tickets: $34 and $42 (depending on day/time), preview and press performances (March 8-12) only $25. Discounts for subscribers, groups of 10 or more, seniors and students. Tickets at 401-723-4266 or gammtheatre.org.

Play Synopsis "Sex to change the course of the world..." With this line from a personal ad, marine biology grad student Jules lures journalism student Jo to his subterranean lab-turned-apartment, where he studies fish sleep cycles for signs of the apocalypse. And so begins one hell of a blind date, and a hilarious play. Will the "intensely significant coupling" of this unlikely pair result in another big bang, or is mankind's fate in the hands of someone watching outside the fishbowl? Rising American playwright Peter Sinn Nachtreib tackles our fascination with myths about the origins (and end!) of life with this clever, sharp-witted doomsday comedy developed in Rhode Island at Brown/Trinity's Playwrights Repertory Theatre.

Artistic Director Tony Estrella says of The Gamm's production, "I feel like I've been asleep for two years while the rest of the country has been blown away by Peter's incredible play. It's a hilarious, incredibly smart, hopeful, love letter to civilization. It's Adam and Eve by way of Darwin and Dawkins and Lucille Ball. And it came into being right in our own backyard. I couldn't be more proud to (finally) give even more Rhode Islanders a chance to discover its wonders."
