The Colonial Theatre Presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

The Colonial Theatre of Rhode Island is thrilled to announce the 2019 summer production of Shakespeare in the Park. Westerly's Wilcox Park will again come alive with Puck and his fairies in the famed play A Midsummer Night's Dream!

This classic Shakespearean comedy brings a fun twist with our new director, Michael Scholar Jr., as he presents this classic story through the eyes of a child. In addition, Michael adds a twist to this tale of escaping to the Athenian woods, where the King and Queen of the Fairies dwell, with the famous children's book Where The Wild Things Are, where the woods come in through the child's bedroom. It is sure to be a hit this hot summer!

Scholar, originally from Regina Canada, started his theatrical career at the age of six years old, playing the Changeling Child in his father's professional production of Midsummer there. He is continuing that tradition by bringing his own six-year-old daughter to play the Changeling Child (on certain performances) here in Wilcox Park. This Midsummer is a look at how children can find their escape in the world of imagination and magic when their own lives are upsetting.

The show runs July 31st - August 18th starting at 7:30 pm each evening. Preview performances are July 31st & Aug 1st and we invite the press to our official Opening Night, which is Friday, Aug 2nd (reception to follow). Performances are Tuesdays through Sundays. The show is always free; a $10 per person to $20 per family donation is always appreciated.

Before every mainstage performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Colonial Theatre will host a variety of musical and theatrical performances as a part of our Greenshow! Every night is a new act, and all acts can be found on our website!

We will offer, during both our Greenshow and A Midsummer Night's Dream, food, beverages, merchandise, and a great raffle full of prizes from our local merchants and vendors.
