Photo Flash: Meet the Stars of SOUVENIR at Granite Theatre

The Granite Theatre of Westerly, announces the opening of Stephen Temperley's comedy with music "Souvenir" the hilarious, true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the infamous grand dame of the 1930's high society and arguably one of the worst singing voices of all time. It was a very recent highly acclaimed movie that starred Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. Producer/ Artistic Director for the theatre is David Jepson. "Souvenir" is directed by Anna Convery (Westerly, RI). The cast features Diana Blanda as "Florence Foster Jenkins" (Westerly, RI) and Stephen DeCesare as "Cosme McMoon" (Johnston, RI). The show opens Friday May 26, 2017 and runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm through June 18, 2017.

For more than half a century the name Florence Foster Jenkins has been guaranteed to produce explosions of derisive laughter. This wealthy society eccentric suffered under the delusion that she was a great coloratura soprano when she was in fact incapable of producing two consecutive notes in tune. Nevertheless, her annual recitals brought her extraordinary fame. As news of her terrible singing spread, so did her celebrity. Her growing mob of fans packed her recitals, stuffing handkerchiefs in their mouths to stifle their laughter-which Mrs. Jenkins blissfully mistook for cheers. The climax of her career was a single concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944. Famously, it sold out in two hours. "Souvenir", by turn hilarious and poignant, tells her story through the eyes of her accompanist, Cosme McMoon.
