Join Salve Regina University's theatre arts program and community members as they celebrate new plays and new playwrights June 14-17 at the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St., Newport, RI. Over the course of four days, 20 actors, seven directors and 18 playwrights will bring 13 new plays to life. All performances and workshops are free to the public.

The Summer in Newport New Play Festival will come to life at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14 and Friday, June 15 when twelve new 10-minute plays are performed. The new plays were chosen by a committee of readers from hundreds of plays submitted by playwrights from around the world. The twelve selected plays were written by playwrights from places as diverse as Colorado, Kentucky and Australia.

One new full-length play "Deconstruction," written by Rhode Island playwright Christopher Davis, will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 17. "Deconstruction" concerns a genetics lab at a university and the controversy that ensues when a gene related to race is discovered. Talkbacks will follow each performance so that the audience may ask questions of the actors and playwrights about the development process.
