Epic Theatre Company is throwing a barbecue! Last October, the theater presented the Rhode Island premiere of Robert O'Hara's "Bootycandy." Next month, Epic will be premiering another ingenious work by Mr. O'Hara-the biting and brilliant "Barbecue." For this production, Epic will be using its brand new outdoor space at 50 Rolfe to create an immersive experience that's going to put the audience right in the middle of one big family feud.

In the play, two families are about to hold an intervention for one of their daughters. One family is black. One is white. Oh-and they're the same family.

"After Bootycandy, I became infatuated with Robert O'Hara," says Epic Artistic Director Kevin Broccoli, "And so I immediately started reading his other work. When I finished Barbecue, I knew we had to do it. It's bold, brash, and ultimately an amazing statement on race and culture in America. Plus, we get to do it at our brand new outdoor space at 50 Rolfe, which means an actual barbecue every night. I can't wait to bust out the grill."

Resident Epic Director Tammy Brown directs a cast that includes Jason Quinn, Paula Faber, Geoff White, Becky Minard, Catia Ramos, Kelly McCabe, Krystal Hall, Sarah Sinclair, Angelique Dina, and Jeannie Carson.

"Barbecue is the first in a series of plays this season being performed in unique locations that allow us to tell their stories in a more innovative way. O'Hara's script is so out-of-the-box, there's no way we could do it justice without taking some big risks. We know our audiences are ready for it, that's why we tell them to Buckle Up."

Barbecue runs from October 6th - October 21st at 50 Rolfe Square in Cranston, Rhode Island. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.artists-exchange.org/epictheatrecompany.html
